Why OmniFeed Pro?
OmniFeed Pro completes individual feeding via ESF and SSF. With OmniFeed, a 3D sensor takes over the assessment of the sows’ backfat, ensuring precise feed allocation according to each sow’s needs
Backfat measurements are time-consuming and often very difficult after insertion into ESF, whereby visual measurements are usually used to assess the sows’ body condition. The visual measurement is insufficient, and the large sow can easily turn out to be a muscular “bodybuilder,” which is why the visual assessment can lead to very uneven body condition among the sows.
The optimal body condition for the sows is 14-17mm during the gestation period leading up to farrowing (SEGES Innovation note no. 2130). Keeping the sows in a stable body condition thus provides significant feed savings, as it requires approximately 20-25 FE extra per mm of backfat if the sow is too thin. Conversely, there is a feed saving if the sow is too fat.
Automatic feed adjustment based on 3D sensor technology
OmniFeed Pro is based on 3D sensor technology, which delivers data to our patented software solution. The individual sow is registered via the 3D sensor’s approximately 3,800 measurement points daily. Based on the extensive data, OmniFeed can calculate an estimated backfat. Every 14 days, the sow’s body condition will be evaluated, and the feed curve will be automatically adjusted in your feed computer and management system. The goal is to ease the work in the barn and ensure greater precision for the benefit of the sow and the barn staff. OmniFeed Pro is a fully automatic system that requires no interaction or consideration.
The development of OmniFeed Pro has been carried out in collaboration with SEGES Innovation P/S, which has contributed to the data processing of the extensive data. Over more than 14 months, OmniFeed has been used to assess the body condition of more than 1,000 sows in a total of 5 herds in Denmark.
